Paul Salsini spent 37 years at The Milwaukee Journal, first as a reporter, then as a copy editor, and then as state editor, responsible for coverage of state news, government and politics. In 1984 he was named staff development director, in charge of recruiting and screening applicants, staff training, staff publications, diversity and, best of all, being the writing coach for the staff. He left the paper in 1995 when the Journal and Sentinel merged.
He was the Wisconsin correspondent for The New York Times from 1964 to 1985.
He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from Marquette and has been teaching journalism writing courses there for 36 years. Currently, he teaches Feature Writing and Critical Writing. He also serves as the college’s writing coach.
In 1994, he founded The Sondheim Review, a quarterly magazine that reported on the works of musical theater composer Stephen Sondheim, and was its editor for ten years.
He is the author of “Second Start,” a book about second-career priests. His first work of fiction, “The Cielo: A Novel of Wartime Tuscany,” has just been published.
